Statement Of Kirk E. Faryniasz

In the short time since announcing my candidacy, I have listened to many of you speak about what you consider to be the top issues in the 2008 campaign.  This page mirrors what I have heard.  I have added a few other issues I have discussed with you and received positive feedback about.  I encourage you to tell me what is on your mind, for I need to know what impacts you and your communities the most.

Property Tax Reform
The Florida Legislature has expended much effort on tax reform, but so far we have seen only small savings.  As a fiscal conservative, I believe we have to lessen the tax burden on our citizens.  Although I am hopeful the 2008 Legislative Session will produce some positive changes, more will still need to be done.  If you send me to Tallahassee, I will continue to push for reform.

Affordable Homeowners Insurance
Hurricanes are a devastating fact of life in Florida.  We tend to file more property insurance claims than most states, with the resulting rate increases passed on to us by the insurance industry.  Insurance reform was made a top priority during the 2007 Legislature, yet few have seen a decrease in their policy premiums.  In fact, many of you told me you’ve either seen an increase or received a letter politely suggesting you change insurers.  We must come up with a better way for insurance companies to do business in our state, and I will work hard to make that happen.

Improving Our Schools
Education is a benchmark of success in our society.  With high school graduation rates in Florida declining each year, we have to improve in this area.  Quality schooling starts at home and is the responsibility of the parents.  More emphasis must be put on educating parents on how important a role they play.  We must never forget that an investment in education is an investment in our tomorrow.

Recycling Bottles
Many residents who used to live in states with bottle recycling laws wonder why Florida does not have one.  They have seen bottle recycling reduce litter along the sides of roads, in parks and along waterways, and reduce the amount of garbage going into landfills.  I will do all I can to bring bottle recycling to the Sunshine State.

Tax Breaks for Our Troops
Serving in a combat zone is a challenge for Florida’s citizen soldiers and creates for many a tremendous financial hardship.  I will support a bill that will temporarily eliminate property taxes for members of the National Guard and Reserve while deployed.
